Where there is no vision, the people perish.
Proverbs 29:18
If people can’t see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves.
Eugene Peterson
Colossians 1:28-29
28 He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. 29 To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.
Assumes a Purpose
“so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.”
To recognize and participate in the Kingdom of God and to be a people who live inviting and distinct lives of apprenticeship to Jesus.
Assumes a Process
Be a Rooted Community
Be a Practicing Community
Be a Connected Community
Guided by the Holy Spirit
The Christian life in its fullness is far more than being active in a Christian community, affirming a certain set of beliefs, or adopting a particular behavior pattern. These are a secondary result of the primary reality of a life engaged in an ever-deepening union with God in love. Robert Mulholland
Mark 8:34-37
Whoever wants to be my disciple (apprentice) must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?
The flourishing and meaningful life does not happen accidentally. It must be sought after. And the means of pursuit is the life of discipleship to a philosophy, a way of seeing and being in the world that is pursued and practiced. First become aware of yourself; then turn away from foolish and non-life-giving habits and thoughts (in biblical language, ‘repent’); and then, over time, learn new ways of living through failures and successes in practice.
Jonathan Pennington, Jesus the Great Philosopher
Assumes a Struggle
“I strenuously contend!”
We believe that to be a disciple of Jesus (an apprentice of Jesus) is to order our lives around three goals: to be with Jesus, to become like Jesus, and to do what Jesus did.
