 “In the world of the Hebrew Scriptures a personal name was often thought to indicate something else about the bearer’s identity, origin, birth circumstances, or the divine purpose that the bearer was intended to fulfill.”

1. The Name Can Dwell in a Person

Deuteronomy 12:5

But you are to seek the place the Lord your God will choose from among all your tribes to put his Name there for his dwelling. To that place you must go;

2. The Name can Dwell in a Physically Place or Location

Micah 4:5

All the nations may walk
    in the name of their gods,
but we will walk in the name of the Lord
    our God for ever and ever.

3. The Name Describes a Whole Way of Living

4. The Name Rests on an Entire People

Ezekiel 36:16-23

You and I cannot pray “Hallowed be your name” or “May your name be kept holy” and not mean “I am presenting myself as the means for which that prayer is being answered.”

You are to understand that your Father's Name is to be "hallowed," or set apart as sacred. Among other things, this means that you trust the Father by obeying His commandments and making daily choices in the light of His reality.
You do not "profane" your Father's Name by witnessing to the world around you that He is not who is really is -- namely, the LORD to whom every knee shall bow and every tongue confess. You are to bear witness to His Name by sanctifying it, by honoring it, and by living in the awe of God every moment of your time of sojourn here on earth.
